If you’re considering joining a Fairfield Country Club, you’ll have three in town to choose from, plus a beach club, if golf isn’t a priority. Each private club in Fairfield packed with a long list of amenities and activities, but at the same time, each club has its own personality and priorities, making them all a bit different.

Below, we’ve broken down what to know about the three country clubs in Fairfield, Brooklawn Country Club, The Patterson Club, and the Country Club of Fairfield, as well as given an overview of The Fairfield Beach Club.

Fairfield Country Clubs

Brooklawn Country Club

Brooklawn Country Club, along Brooklawn Avenue in Fairfield, is the oldest country club in town, and is beloved by true golf enthusiasts for its AW Tillinghast-designed championship golf course, and its history as one of the first clubs to join the United States Golf Association in 1896. The 125-year-old club was also home to the 2021 Senior Womens’ PGA Event, and has hosted such golf greats as Tiger Woods and Gene Sarazen (a former assistant pro at the club) in the past.

In addition to its emphasis on golf, Brooklawn is known as an excellent family club, hosting regular family events like Easter Egg hunts with a helicopter egg drop, a fall fest with bumper cars and hayrides, and a summer camp for members’ children and grandchildren.

The historic clubhouse underwent a massive renovation in 2021-2022 and features an all new bar area, expanded patio seating, updated bowling alley, and refreshed event spaces.

Brooklawn also offers tennis, paddle, pickleball, and various youth and adult lessons and leagues.

The club currently has a waitlist.

Country Club of Fairfield

The Country Club of Fairfield, AKA Sasco or CCF, is known as the most exclusive country club in town. The membership is notoriously hand-selected, and would-be members are encouraged to get to know the current membership organically in the hopes of receiving a nod for an invite. As such, there’s no formal waitlist.

If you’re lucky enough to garner an invite, the perks of the club are vast. The rolling golf course, designed by Seth Raynor, directly overlooks Sasco Beach, a beautiful spot on Long Island Sound. The club also has a private beach with and adjacent pool, dining area and changing cabanas. The hedge-lined tennis courts and freshly renovated club house are some of the best facilities in the area.

Unlike Brooklawn and Patterson, CCF doesn’t host regular banquet style events like weddings, bar mitzvahs, or proms, aside for the social events of its members.

The Patterson Club was started by 20 General Electric Employees in 1929, and has since grown into one of the largest country clubs in the area. The 18-hole Robert Trent Jones Sr.-designed golf course is certainly a highlight of the club, but so are the racquet courts. The Patterson Club definitely places the largest emphasis on tennis out of the three clubs in Fairfield, with expansive racquet facilities comprised of seven tennis courts, four dedicated pickleball courts, and five paddle tennis courts.

Aside from impressive tennis and golf facilities, a swimming pool, and a clubhouse with dining and event spaces. The club also offers fitness facilities and a variety of social and recreational activities for members.

The Patterson Club also features a separate banquet area for events like weddings, business conferences, sports banquets, and bar mitzvahs and bat mitzvahs.

Fairfield Beach Club

If you don’t need a golf course, check out Fairfield Beach Club. The members-only club, located next to Penfield Beach, has private beach space, a pool, and tennis courts for its members to enjoy.

Another plus? You’re guaranteed a good parking spot at the beach in the summer. And, dues and initiation fees are cheaper than the country clubs in town.
