Darien Beaches – Public, permitted and private options

Darien, CT beaches are one of the main perks of living in (or close to) this coastal town in Fairfield County.

Nestled along the coast of the Long Island Sound, Darien is home to more than thirty acres of beaches. Two of them are public, and two are private beach clubs in Darien.

Each of them have pros and cons, but all of them make for a great spot to spend a sunny day. Here’s a rundown of the beaches in Darien, whether you’re looking for a beach with a playground, a dog-friendly beach, or a beach that’s a little more secluded from the rest.

Darien Beaches

Darien offers two public beaches, and two private options.

Weed Beach

Weed Beach is arguably the most popular beach in Darien, thanks to its combination of views, accessibility, and amenities. The park has more than 22 acres of sand and activity areas, including a bathhouse, a pirate ship-shaped playground, six tennis courts, five paddle tennis courts, picnic areas, a fit trail with equipment and a full-service concession stand called the Beach Hut.

The beach is public, and free to residents of Darien who has a beach pass, but there is a $53/vehicle fee for non-residents from mid-April through October. The beach also has lifeguards on duty during peak swimming months of Labor Day to Memorial Day.

Pear Tree Point Beach

At 8 acres, Pear Tree Point Beach is a smaller and more secluded beach in Darien. It sits at the mouth of the Goodwives River, and offers a bathing area, a picnic area with picnic tables and grills, a gazebo, a bathhouse, fully operational concession stand, a boat launch ramp, and two beaches. The Pear Tree Point Beach is also home to the Darien Boat Club, which offers seasonal boat slips.

Like Weed Beach, the Pear Tree Point Beach is free to Darien residents with a beach pass, and $53/vehicle for non-residents. Pear Tree Point Beach also has lifeguards on duty during the peak swimming season. There is a $70/day fee for the boat launch for non-residents.

Noroton Yacht Club

The Noroton Yacht Club is a private club in Darien, which offers two beaches and a swim dock alongside its boat slips. Other amenities include a tennis courts, a junior sailing program, and a clubhouse.

Tokeneke Club

The Tokeneke Club is a private, beach front club in the Tokeneke neighborhood of Darien. In addition to a private beach, the club offers a pool, docks, tennis courts, kids programming, dining facilities and cabanas.

Wee Burn Beach Club

Technically, the Wee Burn Beach Club is in nearby Rowayton, but it’s part of the Wee Burn Country Club, located in Darien, so we’ve included it on this list.

The Wee Burn Beach Club is situated near the end of Roton Point, and offer spectacular sunset views and a dining/events facility.
